There’s
a lot going on in Montclair and
if you’ve just arrived it may be
difficult to keep up.
Got a
hankerin’ for some fresh
produce? You’re in luck. The
Montclair Farmers' Market is
open Saturdays,
June through November, at the
Walnut St. Station.
Montclair celebrates the 4th of
July with fireworks and a parade
featuring marching bands, local
dance troupes, antique autos,
and the must-see synchronized
lawn mower maneuvers from the
Parks and Recreation guys.
For New
Year’s Eve, our Town pulls out
all the stops.
First Night
brings dancing, music and
performance art of all kinds — skateboarding to ice sculpture
— to the venues on Bloomfield
Avenue, South Fullerton and Church
Streets.
Winter
months move activities indoors.
Spellers study their esoteric
word lists in preparation for
the Montclair Spelling Bee. And
proud pooches parade around
Clary Anderson Arena hoping for
a chance to win Best in Show.
Proceeds from both events
benefit the
Montclair
Public Schools.
Then,
it’s downtown again, in late
Spring for Downtown Saturday
Night. Revelers rock and roll
under the big top to live bands
playing 50s and 60s music.
“May in
Montclair” – a month-long
celebration of Spring in all its
finery! Check out some of the
local flora at the
Presby Iris
Gardens, where you can see an
iris with a pedigree dating back
to the 1600’s. Play miniature
golf amidst exotic sculptures on
the lawn of the Montclair Art
Museum.
Visit
the open-air bazaar, also known
as the Side Walk Sale, on the 2nd
Saturday in September. Sample treats
from the local restaurants while
browsing through racks of
merchandise — prices slashed for
just one day.
Later in
the Fall, come in costume to
Pumpkin Day at Schweppe
Burgdorff where the Hip Hunters
mix and mingle with ghosts and
goblins of all sorts.
Montclair is happenin’ all year
round.
